F is for:
Facial expressions – our dogs are masters at reading our facial expressions. They study us. It takes deliberate study for us to read their facial expressions but that study is well worth it.
Fast – clicker training involves the proper timing of using the click to mark appropriate behviors but it takes many repetitions to acheive training goals.
Fear – this an ancient circuit in the amygdala which evolved to keep beings alive in predator/prey situations. This circuit is also called the fight or flight response and the latest research would add ‘freeze’ to that list of automatic responses. Yes, our dogs can experience panic attacks!
Finished – behaviors can be trained but that training is never finished.
Four-on-the-floor – a useful concept for your pets to learn to be rewarded for showing impulse control.
