ABC’s of Dog Training – M

M is for:

Meek – you can define meek two different ways: either humbly patient or docile, as under provocation from others or overly submissive or compliant; spiritless; tame. While I wouldn’t want to break my dog’s spirit to acheive compliance I very much enjoyed my service dog’s level of tameness.

Mindset – it is of the utmost importance to have the peoper mindset when engaging in dog training. You are the human partner in the relationship which means it is your responsibility to manage your dog’s environment and providing for it’s needs.

Mighty – exceptional dog behavior is based on exceptional training.

Miniscule – When using operant conditioning a trainer needs to reinforce even miniscule movements toward a goal.

Morph – transformation, especially through a progression of tiny adjustments. As a trainer you should recognize your own incremental accumulation of skills over time and avoid unrealistic expectations of instataneous perfection in yourself or your dog.
